What to do when you feel like losing control...

Things to do Instead of Binging

Instead of binging, try to calm yourself down. Ask yourself "Do I really need to binge?" The following tips may help you get the control back over your impuslive eating behaviour.

When you feel like being at risk of losing control:

  1. Wait ten minutes; count to 100 - waiting for a couple of minutes usually makes the cravings go away.
  2. Have a big glass of water.
  3. Call a friend.
  4. Visit a friend.
  5. Ask a friend to come over.
  6. Call an Eating Disorder Hotline.
  7. Call your therapist.
  8. Call someone from your support group.
  9. Write your journal.
  10. Write an e-mail to a friend.
  11. Listen to music.
  12. Listen to a comedy tape or video.
  13. Dance to your faviourite songs.
  14. Watch a movie.
  15. Read a book.
  16. Take a nap.
  17. Pray.
  18. Exercise.
  19. Medidate.
  20. Go to a tanning salon.
  21. Paint a picture.
  22. Clean your room.
  23. Take a relaxing bath.
  24. Go for a walk (don't take money with you!)
  25. Spend time with your pet.
  26. Plant flowers or pull weeds in a garden.
  27. Colour your hair.
  28. Paint your nails.
  29. Go to eating disorder support websites and chat online with people who are going through the same as you are.
  30. Plan regular activities for your most difficult time of day.
  31. Give yourself permission to.... (Keep it safe)
